World over across the manufacturing industry, the top managements continuously focus on evolving better strategies for improving product functionality, quality, cost and product development lead time, to stay ahead of competition and be a distinct differentiator. As around 80 % of the life cycle product cost is committed at the concept and design stage of the product, strategic application of the appropriate techniques is imperative, for improving the financial metrics of the company.

Robust Engineering, conceptualized and developed by Dr. Genichi Taguchi, has revolutionized the Japanese, European and American manufacturing since last 3 decades. Robust Engineering represents the application of Taguchi methods at the ( upstream ) start of product/process development activities to optimize performance even in the presence of controllable and uncontrollable factors causing variability, at the lowest cost. This leveraging tool finds its application more in today's manufacturing scenario which is faced with increasing customer pressures on price, quality and delivery. Robust Engineering is applicable for both product optimization ( upstream ~ Off line ) in the design stages and process optimization ( downstream ~ On line ) in the production environment.

To serve this requirement, across Indian Industry, as a part of the QUALITY SUMMIT , organized by CII - Institute of Quality, a 2 day intensive workshop has been planned to be conducted exclusively with respect to the manufacturing industries. Product manufacturers, across the entire spectrum of product groups would find Robust Engineering directly applicable to improve their product profitability.


Shin Taguchi is Chief Technical Officer in ASI Consulting Group. He has worked with more than 25,000 engineers worldwide. He has also implemented product and process optimization based on Taguchi Methods, Robust Engineering and other strategies. He works with engineering, product development & manufacturing executives. He has also authored several books on Robust Engineering.
